Trust me, coding is not the toughest part.
By the time you are reading this article, my time at Continental Automotive Singapore has inched past a year and in this article, I want to look back at what I have accomplished as a junior embedded software engineer. I’ll probably still be a junior engineer for the next year or so, that’s how it works here in this company but this is obviously not the point of this article.
In short, the first year has been nothing short of growth, personal development and broadening of my knowledge base in the field of embedded systems and programming generally.
Chapter 1: Uphill Battle
I still remember the first few weeks at the company spending numerous nights trying to understand the code base and how it ties to the systems we are building. It all looked alien to me to be honest maybe because I used to hate embedded systems during university and I couldn’t see its potential.
The nights spent trying to understand the tools both in terms of hardware and software were memorable, in a sense that I’ll never forget how much it takes to build a strong foundation in this field.
